The S-81 ‘Isaac Peral’ submarine has carried out its first navigation in the Bay of Cartagena, fulfilling this way its demanding schedule of safety milestones.
The surface navigation, which lasted for four hours, has marked the beginning of the S-81’s sea trials. In the coming months, until delivery to the Spanish Navy in 2023, the Navantia shipyard in Cartagena will continue to carry out the various port and sea trials scheduled in the calendar, including a dry-docking of the submarine during the summer months.
The S-81 submarine, the first Spanish-designed and built submarine, was launched in May 2021, following a ceremony presided over by the King of Spain, and the Princess of Asturias as the vessel’s godmother.
