Based on the client’s requirements and with their active participation and preferences, Navantia designs the ship’s Integrated Internal and External Communications System, with the generic name of NAVCOMS.

NAVCOMS encompasses all phases of the program: design, manufacturing, factory acceptance tests, integration tests on land, on-board tuning, harbor acceptance trials, sea acceptance trials, training, operational assessment and life cycle support.

Navantia includes in the design of NAVCOMS products from the clients’ national industry, allowing the participation of this industry in all phases of product development and establishing with it agreements on technology transfer and training. Navantia is aware that the national industry plays an important role in supporting the life cycle of NAVCOMS.

The objective of this system is to provide the necessary resources so that at all times there is an exchange of information between onboard tactical posts (internal communications) and between these and other naval units, airborne units, mobile land forces and control centers / headquarters on land (external communications).

Navantia has developed HERMESYS, an integrated communication control system based on IP (Internet Protocol) technology which provides added value to NAVCOMS, bringing greater processing capacity, better control and increased supervision of the Integrated Communications System. It also allows, with respect to systems based on TDM technology, reductions of more than 70% in terms of installation and set-up labor, as well as important weight savings.
