The Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the United Kingdom presented the 2022 Golden Award to Navantia this evening. The recognition was collected by the President of the company, Ricardo Domínguez García-Baquero, at a reception that took place at the Spanish Embassy in London.
The Annual Golden Award is one of SCC’s most important events of the year. This formal networking reception acknowledges the outstanding performance and activity of Spanish companies in the UK market.
HE The Spanish Ambassador to the UK, José Pascual Marco Martínez, who works closely with the SCC in his capacity as Honorary President, hosted the reception and praised Navantia during his speech.
Upon receiving the award, Ricardo Domínguez said: “Navantia UK shows our determination to support sustainable growth in the UK. We will achieve this through opportunities such as the UK Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution, where we can show our expertise in the development of green energies, and opportunities arising from the UK National Shipbuilding Strategy. We, of course, cannot do this alone. Navantia has historically collaborated with many UK companies”.
“Looking forward, Navantia UK’s activities will continue to rely on partnerships with industry across the United Kingdom, both local and national. We look forward to sharing our expertise and experience in the offshore wind market, both through agreements with local industrial partners and by opening local manufacturing premises”, he added.
The history of Navantia dates back to the XVIII Century, linked to the building and maintenance of ships for the Spanish Navy. Today, it builds technologically advanced ships for different navies, and is also a designer, constructor and integrator of advanced defence systems. More recently, through its brand Navantia Seanergies, it is a leading supplier for the offshore wind market.
“Navantia represents two fundamental values that are reshaping our world today: security and green energy. We cannot live without security and more than ever, we need companies that provide us with green energy”, stated the President of SCC, Eduardo Barrachina.
The President of the SCC also highlighted the significance of this award, and of Navantia’s commitment in the UK market: Since 2014, Navantia has taken part in the construction of four offshore windfarms, manufacturing both fixed and floating foundations and substations, and will soon start building monopiles for another one.
“The UK market remains a priority for many Spanish investors and Navantia is an eloquent example”, stated Barrachina.
In the defence market, Navantia UK is part of Team Resolute -with Harland&Wolf and BMT-, one of the contenders in the Fleet Solid Support (FSS) competition to build three ships for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.
Representatives from the British and Spanish business sectors gathered to celebrate this important recognition, alongside Senior Civil Servants from departments of HM’s Government, including: the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and HM’s Treasury. The SCC makes extensive efforts to facilitate an open dialogue between its Members and the British Government, in particular to help Spanish companies navigate the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA).
