European sovereign technology

COEX Naval Systems is Navantia's Centre of Excellence specialising in the development and integration of advanced technological solutions applied to naval defence. Located in the Bay of Cadiz and with more than 6,000 m² of specialised facilities, the centre works in key areas such as tactical cloud, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, unmanned vehicles and interoperability. Its mission is to accelerate the integration of high-tech systems on ships, increasing their operational capability and effectiveness in increasingly complex and asymmetric environments.

With more than 100 highly qualified professionals and a wide network of collaborators, including universities, technology centres and leading companies in the sector, COEX Naval Systems leads European and international projects of great strategic impact, such as HYDEF, SWAT-SHOAL and E-NACSOS. Equipped with laboratories, immersive environments and test platforms, this centre positions Navantia at the technological forefront of European defence, acting as an engine of innovation, operational excellence and technological superiority for our customers.sátiles, Fene has dry docks and docks for repairs of cruise ships and Navy vessels. Its integrated systems workshops offer combat and propulsion modernisation. It participates in energy transition programmes with jackets and XXL monopiles, strengthening local employment and innovation in sustainable offshore wind.

Strategic centre for experimentation, validation and deployment of next-generation naval capabilities

COEX Naval Systems not only develops technology, but also acts as a realistic and safe test environment to validate systems prior to their integration into naval platforms. Its facilities allow complex operations to be simulated and the performance of advanced solutions to be evaluated under demanding conditions.

In addition, the centre is aligned with key European initiatives, participating in international consortia and cooperation projects that reinforce strategic autonomy in defence. This international dimension consolidates its role as an important player in the European military innovation ecosystem.

COEX Naval Systems, core validation and deployment of critical capabilities

With its immersive simulation, augmented reality and digital modelling capabilities, COEX turns research into tangible solutions. Its hands-on approach accelerates the transition from R&D to direct application in ships and combat systems.
