The BEST AIP system is a third-generation Anaerobic Propulsion System designed for expeditionary submarines, providing a crucial strategic advantage for long-duration missions in hostile environments. This state-of-the-art technology enables conventional submarines to remain submerged for weeks under all defined operational conditions, from tropical to subarctic environments and across the entire depth range. This energy generation system is based on proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells and bioethanol reforming, which is stored onboard in structural tanks. The advantages of the AIP system are numerous and significant. Increased submerged autonomy results in an expanded patrol area with a zero Indiscretion Coefficient, as well as an exponential reduction in the probability of being detected. Additionally, onboard hydrogen production on demand from bioethanol provides logistical, safety, and sustainability benefits. The BEST AIP system also has a positive impact on the submarine's service life, as it eliminates the need to replace equipment every 9,000 hours or during overhaul periods (every six years). This ensures the submarine can operate efficiently and sustainably over long periods without frequent maintenance interruptions.
The BEST AIP system is a unique and revolutionary solution that sets a new standard in submarine technology. It offers logistical, operational, and lifecycle benefits while improving the sustainability and efficiency of naval operations. This makes it the best option for oceanic submarines, offering unmatched performance and reliability.
Enhances the submarine's tactical capabilities through unprecedented extension of submerged autonomy, rendering it invisible in the operational area.

The BEST AIP system offers significant improvements in endurance by extending the submerged operational range, resulting in an expanded patrol area, meaning that submarine endurance is measured in weeks, not days. It also improves submarine undetectability, as it features a zero indiscretion coefficient, providing a crucial strategic advantage in long-duration missions and hostile environments.
Technological Innovation
The BEST AIP system represents the forefront of technological innovation in naval engineering, enhancing military strategic capabilities. The system produces hydrogen on board, on-demand, from bioethanol—a liquid fuel that can be stored in structural tanks. Additionally, through extensive sensorization, a high degree of operational automation is achieved.
Process Automation
The high degree of automation in the BEST AIP system equipment enables low crew dependency and specialization, as well as remote process monitoring.
