United Kingdom’s First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff visited Navantia’s shipyard in Puerto Real (Cádiz)

Admiral Sir Ben Key, United Kingdom’s First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff visited Navantia’s shipyard in Puerto Real (Cádiz), where some of the blocks for the FSS ships will be built.

The Fleet Solid Support (FSS) programme for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), consists of three ships to provide ammunitions and supply for the Royal Navy, thanks to the collaboration between Navantia UK, BMT, Harland & Wolff and Navantia.

Sir Ben Key visited the facilities and workshops where the blocks will be built, as well as the 500 metres long dry dock, together with Rear Admiral Ivan Finn, Director Navy Acquisition, and MR Dan Bishop, Director Ship Procurement in Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S).

After meeting in Madrid with Navantia’s Chairman, Ricardo Domínguez, Sir Ben Key was welcomed in Puerto Real by Navantia COO Gonzalo Mateo-Guerrero and Navantia’s Chairman advisor and Chief of Staff, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Javier Romero. Navantia UK CEO, Juan de la Cueva, and non-executive Chairman, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Sir Alan Massey, were also present.
