Key benchmark for LNG repairs in Europe
Navantia Shiprepairs has a business line specialised in LNG and Oil & Gas vessels, focused on the repair, conversion and life extension of liquefied natural gas carriers and large‑tonnage oil tankers.
This line is led by the Ría de Ferrol Shipyard, which concentrates the most advanced technical capabilities for this type of project. The Ferrol shipyard is located next to the Ferrol regasification terminal and the future LNG Hub, less than a 15‑minute walk from the city centre. This strategic location facilitates logistics, transfers and coordination with suppliers and clients.
Navantia is approved by GTT for all types of membrane containment systems, offering propulsion repair and maintenance services; it is also supported by the Cádiz Bay centre, which can accommodate longer LNG vessels when needed, ensuring maximum flexibility and availability.
Since 1992, this line has carried out more than 350 projects for the repair of LNG and Oil & Gas vessels, with recent work on units such as Excelsior (2023), LNG Sakura (2023) and Gaslog Hong Kong (2023), consolidating Navantia as a European benchmark in this high‑tech segment.
In terms of infrastructure, it has more than 2,000 m² of covered area for storing spare parts and goods during repairs, an open storage area with capacity for more than 500 containers, its own technical office for refit projects, and fully equipped workshops and prefabrication facilities, including specialised cryogenic workshops for complex interventions in LNG tanks.
