Military Units
Essential pillar of naval military maintenance
Navantia is an international benchmark in the naval sector with over 300 years of tradition, specialising in both construction and repair of military and civilian naval units.
Navantia has consolidated its position as an international benchmark in naval repairs, with more than 300 years of tradition and extensive experience in both civilian and military vessels. Its status as a strategic public company, 100% owned by SEPI, and its direct link with the Ministry of Finance and Civil Service reinforce its role as a trusted supplier to the Navy and other professional navies.
The repair centres are distributed across three strategic locations: Ferrol Estuary (Ferrol and Fene), Bay of Cádiz (Cádiz and San Fernando) and Port of Cartagena. These shipyards, located on key routes in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, comprise five work centres that enable rapid support to naval units wherever the fleet is deployed
The infrastructure of Navantia Shiprepairs is exceptional: it has 12 dry docks with capacity for VLCC vessels, a floating dock and a syncrolift capable of lifting twelve ships simultaneously.
In addition, it has quay cranes with capacities above 200 t and mobile cranes above 1,000 t, along with more than 7,000 m of fully equipped jetties and workshops specialising in all types of naval work.
Each year, these centres carry out more than 200 repairs on civilian and military vessels of different lengths, covering everything from routine maintenance to large‑scale projects. This level of activity, combined with expertise in refit and revitalisation techniques, ensures that the military fleet maintains its operability and availability at all times
To meet the specific needs of the Navy, Navantia offers a comprehensive catalogue of services: repair, refit, maintenance, modernisation, conversion, integration of high‑technology systems and life‑cycle support. Thanks to this versatility, military units can be upgraded and kept operational with full technical assurance
The Navantia Shiprepairs workforce exceeds 380 direct professionals, supported by a network of more than 2,000 specialised contractors, both local and international. This combination of in‑house talent and top‑tier subcontracting enables a comprehensive “one‑stop” service with the highest standards of safety, quality and reliability.
All work is carried out under demanding certifications: ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 14064‑1:2018 (Bureau Veritas), in addition to PECAL/AQAP 2110/2210 certification from the Ministry of Defence and ISPS approval for port facilities. These standards ensure compliance with the strictest quality, health, safety and environmental policies in every military project
