Integration of new sensors
The F-110 frigates destined for the Spanish Navy are multi-purpose escort ships with anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine capabilities, enabling them to carry out their missions particularly in force-protection and naval-power-projection roles. They can operate jointly with other units. These versatile ships can also undertake tasks related to maritime security and support to civilian authorities.
The F110 will represent a qualitative leap from the point of view of the Navy's capabilities and the industrial and technological potential of Navantia and all its collaborating industry. It thus contributes to Spain's strategic autonomy and to having a cutting-edge industrial and technological base, while opening up new export opportunities.
Navantia's F110 frigate is designed to provide advanced defense and surveillance capabilities. With cutting-edge technology and a focus on interoperability, the F110 offers a comprehensive solution for maritime protection and homeland security. This 21st century smart ship incorporates state-of-the-art combat systems, advanced sensors and electronic warfare capabilities, making it a versatile and highly efficient platform for dealing with modern threats.
Navantia's Digital Twin, developed with the Spanish Navy and the DGAM, is a virtual replica of the ship that uses technologies such as Cloud Computing, Machine Learning and IoT to support its maintenance and operation, improve decision making and enhance crew training and instruction.
The F110 will carry 3D printers on board in order to print some of its spare parts, thanks to developments in collaboration with the Navy and Navantia's Center of Excellence for Additive Manufacturing (CEFAN), located in Puerto Real (Cadiz).
The Integrated Services System (ISS), developed in collaboration with the Universities of Vigo and Coruña, significantly reduces the volume of cables on the ship through a neural network based on 2,000 light points. It integrates lighting, public address, supervision, cameras, wireless services and sensorization into a single system, facilitating interaction with the crew.
Thanks to innovative concepts such as the Digital Twin, the program is already being the lever for the digital transformation of the Navantia shipyard in Ferrol, which will become an international reference in frigates, with a new digitized Block Factory and a Digital Twin Center of Excellence.
The F110 incorporates Industry 4.0 technologies, improving both the construction, operation and life cycle of the vessel.
