The COEX Digital Twin is Navantia's Centre of Excellence for the development and integration of digital technologies applied to the complete life cycle of ships and naval and energy platforms. Located in the Ferrol shipyard, this space of more than 2,500 m² is equipped with advanced laboratories, 3D simulation rooms, extended reality environments and a secure digital infrastructure. Its mission is to lead the digital transformation of the industry through the use of digital twins, modelling, simulation and real-time connectivity with onshore centres, thus improving the design, operation and sustainment of systems in an efficient and sustainable way.
With a multidisciplinary team of more than 70 professionals and a network of strategic collaborators -such as universities, technology centres and companies in the ICT sector-, the COEX Digital Twin acts as an innovation engine for key programmes such as the F110 frigates or the European EDINAF project. In addition to promoting the development of the Integrated Services System (ISS), which converts ships into intelligent platforms, the centre positions Navantia as an international benchmark in the application of the digital twin, with solutions designed to optimise decision-making, guarantee interoperability and reduce costs throughout the useful life of the assets.
The COEX Digital Twin is the nerve centre of digital transformation at Navantia. Designed as a high-performance space, it integrates advanced technological capabilities for the development, validation and deployment of digital twins applied to both the naval and renewable energy sectors. Strategic projects such as the Digital Twin of the F110 frigates and the European EDINAF programme are led from this environment, reinforcing interoperability and international collaboration in defence.
Beyond its role as a technology laboratory, COEX Digital Twin acts as an integration platform between design, operation and sustainment of complex systems, connecting physical and virtual environments through real-time data. Its impact extends along the entire value chain, optimising processes, reducing risks and improving efficiency in a measurable way. With more than 2,500 m² in the Ferrol shipyard and a highly qualified team, the centre consolidates Navantia as a global benchmark in industrial digitisation.
