Naval Digital Transformation

Navantia’s Innovation and Robotics Center (CIR), established in 2022, serves as a key pillar in the company’s digital transformation and the modernization of shipbuilding. Acting as an innovation engine, the CIR implements cutting-edge technologies to automate production processes, optimize resources, and enhance manufacturing quality. Through its robotic cells, manual tasks are replaced with automated operations that lower costs, improve production times, and ensure high precision in every component.

Among the solutions developed are the automation of preliminary manufacturing, weld inspection using laser profilometry and ultrasound, and robotic pre-assembly of bulkheads—cutting production times from 200 to just 12 hours. Dimensional control systems and advanced surface analysis paint inspections also stand out. Thanks to the CIR, Navantia is positioned as an international benchmark in naval engineering, committed to efficiency, quality, and competitiveness as foundations of an intelligent and sustainable industrial model.

Center of excellence transforming shipbuilding through automation and advanced robotics

The CIR applies advanced robotics in key processes such as preliminary manufacturing, bulkhead pre-assembly, and weld and paint inspection. This reduces production times by up to 90%, enhances traceability, and raises quality standards at every stage of ship construction.

Strategic Robotic Cells

The CIR’s robotic cells apply advanced technology to key processes, improving time, precision, and traceability. Their integration into naval production reinforces Navantia’s commitment to efficiency, quality, and industrial innovation.
