Cutting-edge technology

AEGIS system and cooperative tactical liaison.

The AWD is a highly capable light destroyer designed to lead battle groups in high-threat scenarios. Its advanced combat architecture, based on the F-100 class, provides air, anti-submarine and anti-ship defence, with ballistic missile defence and cooperative combat operations capabilities.

It is equipped with the AEGIS system, 3D multi-function radar and variable depth sonar. Its offensive power includes long-range missiles, torpedoes, guns and countermeasures systems. Thanks to its proven reliability and operational range, the AWD is a mainstay of fleet protection and allied naval projection.

The Hobart-class destroyer was the first Australian ship to integrate the Aegis system, providing advanced air defence capabilities.

The Hobart-class Aegis system, together with its AN/SPY-1D radar, enables missile interception and advanced air defence. The 48-cell Vertical Launch System (VLS) provides efficient response to long-range air threats, ensuring protection of the area of operations.

Exceptional autonomy: 30 days of continuous operation without resupply, ensuring the Hobart's presence in any conflict zone.
CODOG propulsion system

The Hobart's CODOG (Combined Diesel and Gas) system, with GE LM2500 gas turbines and Caterpillar diesel engines, enables the destroyer to reach speeds in excess of 28 knots and provide a range of more than 5,000 nautical miles. This system ensures its ability to operate on extended missions without compromising speed or efficiency.

Missile Defence

The Hobart-class is equipped with the advanced Aegis system and the VLS, providing exceptional air and missile defence.

Anti-Submarine Warfare

The Hobart is designed to operate with the MH-60R Seahawk helicopter and advanced sonar, providing anti-submarine warfare capabilities.

Efficient Inter-Unit Collaboration

The Hobart-class enables seamless integration between destroyers in the same fleet, improving coordination and efficiency in joint operations. Its Aegis system and command and control capabilities optimise collaboration between platforms, ensuring a robust and coordinated maritime defence.
