On 15 April, Navantia  has been awarded and entered into a Frame Work Agreement  with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.  to provide ship-repair, revitalization, upgrading and related marine services for its fleet. Royal Caribbean is a global cruise vacation company that operates Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Pullmantur, Azamara Club Cruises and CDF Croisières de France, as well as TUI Cruises through a 50 percent joint venture.

The relationship between Navantia S.A. and Royal Caribbean commenced in 2011 with the company’s revitaliztion program, beginning with the repair and revitalization of SPLENDOUR OF THE SEAS.

SPLENDOUR OF THE SEAS was a landmark project for the yard, not only in its relationship with Royal Caribbean, but also as a trigger for the launching and implementation of various shipyard processes and procedures to better address the high standards, critical logistics and tight schedules associated with both routine repairs and complex revitalizations of cruise vessels.

This initial project was subsequently followed by the successful execution of a number of additional Repair and Revite projects for Royal Caribbean, including  GRANDEUR OF THE SEAS, AZAMARA QUEST, EMPRESS, SERENADE OF THE SEAS, BRILLIANCE OF THE SEAS, VISION OF THE SEAS, MEIN SCHIFF-2, ZENITH, CELEBRITY EQUINOX and SOVEREIGN.

This milestone long-term maintenance and refit contract with Royal Caribbean further solidifies the future of the strategic partnership between the companies and reinforces the reputation of Navantia S.A. as one of the world’s leading shipyards in the highly specialized segment of cruise ships repair, refurbishment and conversion.

The Frame Work Agreement, signed in Cádiz, SPAIN, by Mr. Kevin Douglas, Vice President of Technical Projects and Newbuildings for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., and  Mr. Esteban Garcia Vilasanchez ; Industrial Vice President, Navantia S.A. Shipyard, commits the repairs, revitalization and upgrading of its fleet of cruise ships cruising in the European area to Navantia S.A. Shipyard.

Mr. Kevin Douglas, Vice President, Technical Projects and Newbuildings, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. said “We are very excited to be entering this relationship with Navantia. Our work with them the past few years gone extremely well and we are looking forward to working with them for many years to come.”

Mr. Esteban Garcia Vilasanchez, Navantia  Industrial V.P. said “We are honored to be the chosen partner of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., a world-class cruise ship owner and operator. Navantia S.A. has over the recent few years, focused strongly on the development of our fast-growing niche markets, one of which is the cruise ship repairs/upgrades and conversion market. Since 2010, Navantia has successfully repaired and upgraded more than 25 passenger ships.

We have made investments to adapt our facilities to this stringent market and developed in our workforce a mentality oriented to the cruise repair and revitalization market. The result is a team with the right attitude, training and experience to successfully deliver cruise ships on schedule and to high Quality, Health, Environment and Safety standards. We have worked very well with the Royal Caribbean team on several ships and we are thus delighted with this award from Royal Caribbean. We thank Royal Caribbean for its confidence in Navantia S.A. Shipyard’s ability to meet Royal Caribbean’s high standards. We look forward to a long-term partnership which will deliver visible mutual benefits and continuous improvements to both companies.”
