Navantia's frigates are designed to provide advanced defence and strike capabilities at sea, protecting both fleets and coastal infrastructures. The main purpose of frigates is to ensure maritime security, conduct surveillance and reconnaissance operations, and participate in combat and logistic support missions.

Frigates are ships designed to achieve the strategic objectives of any nation's national defence in the 21st century. Their anti-surface, anti-submarine and especially anti-aircraft capabilities make this vessel the fundamental platform for guaranteeing the defence and control of all areas under a country's sovereignty. In addition, they are an indispensable tool in the nation's foreign policy, acting both in conflict operations and in peace and humanitarian missions, as well as in compliance with UN resolutions. Its high capabilities and flexibility to operate both in coastal areas and on the high seas allow it to act as a command and control vessel in operations with allied fleets, providing the necessary coverage.
The F110 will represent a qualitative leap from the point of view of the navy's capabilities and the industrial and technological potential of Navantia and all its collaborating industry. It thus contributes to Spain's strategic autonomy and to having a cutting-edge industrial and technological base, while at the same time opening up new export opportunities.
One of the most important elements of Navantia's frigates is the SCOMBA Combat System. This system is fundamental to the combat superiority of Navantia's frigates. It allows the integration of new sensors and weapons, and is cyber-secure.
Navantia has succeeded in creating and developing a national solution for the critical systems of the Spanish Navy's ships and projecting it into products for export.
Thus, the Integrated Platform Control System (ICPS), the Command and Control System SCOMBA, CATIZ (the export variant of SCOMBA), Dorna Shooting Directions and the Integrated Communications System NAVCOM / Hermesys are consolidated products from their incorporation in the configuration of the F-100 class frigates.
