Offshore electrical substations
Navantia, within its windpower area, produces marine electrical substations structures, that are installed on the high seas, receive energy from the generators and, after transforming it, send it to land for consumption.
In 2014, Navantia built the Wikinger Park substation for Iberdrola, which is now fully operational. With its 8,500 tons of weight, it is the energetic heart of this 350 MW power plant with a total budget of 1,400 million euros.
This substation, called Andalucia, collects and prepares for transmission to land all the electricity produced by offshore wind turbines, enough to meet the needs of 350,000 German homes and prevent the emission into the atmosphere of almost 600,000 tons of CO2 per year .
In 2016, Navantia was hired to build the East Anglia One (Scotland) substation, which will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world.
