"Meteoro" OPV, against piracy

The Spanish Navy “Meteoro” OPV started started in April 2018, for the third time, its participation in the Atalanta European  mission against piracy in the western Indian Ocean. The “Meteoro” replaced on this occasion the Spanish AOR “Cantabria”, both built by Navantia.

In its fight against piracy in this area, the “Meteoro” OPV provides protection, mainly, to the ships within the United Nations World Food Program, as well as to the fishing vessels that operate in the nearby waters.
